ASSALAMU ALAIKUM:

As you know, the NS program works to promote SMOKING PREVENTION & CESSATION in our diverse Muslim community. Too many Muslims smoke! And one major reason we say that is:

CANCER.

Survey Results are In! Survey results indicate many things, showing that NYC Muslim community leadership does recognize this health/spirituality issue as very important but have yet to organize services at the mosque or in the community. This is something we at NS are working to address!

Currently we have fliers in Arabic, Bangla, Bosnian, Twi and Urdu—we expect Turkish to be ready in the coming week. THANKS to Imam Saban Karipek at Iqra Mosque for the beautiful calligraphy of our name!

A special shout out to Imam Siraj Wahaj for his recent thoughts on smoking, as well as prayers for his full recovery.

NS staff and outreach attended two Cancer Walks last week. We think Muslims were there but no one was clearly identifiable. Let’s show that we are the community that we say we are! Let’s practice the Ihasan that our Deen requires. And the PR is useful as well! Be the Solution!
